David Suchet OBE

David Suchet OBE

David has been Vice President of JoLt and a wonderful supporter, with his wife Sheila, of all JoLt does.

David was born in Paddington and was a notable sportsman at school but he was soon bitten by the acting bug. David’s first major TV role was Edward Teller in the BBC’s series Oppenheimer starring Sam Waterston. Since then he has become known for his range of superb characterisations and has played the lead roles in no less than four major TV series - Freud in The Life of Freud, Blott in Blott on the Landscape, Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie’s Poirot and most recently John Borne in the BBC’s NCS Manhunt (National Crime Squad).

At the same time as his heavy TV schedule, he has also found time to perform in many West End productions. Not surprisingly, David has also pursued an incredibly busy film career. He has starred in Executive Decision with Kurt Russell, A Perfect Murder with Michael Douglas and notably the independent film Sunday which won the best film award at the Sundance Film Festival.

He was a jazz drummer in the 60s but now prefers the quieter tones of the clarinet. David is also a nature lover and a very keen ornithologist. One of his great loves is the canals of Great Britain, supporting them and their restoration. He is connected with and holds official titles with many waterways organisations.
