JoLT 2014 – Across Africa

Journey of a Lifetime 2014

We are almost ready for our next journey running between July 19th and 15th August 2014. We aim to travel from the heart of Africa to the Indian Ocean. We will start our travels in Zambia, before heading through Botswana, South Africa, Swaziland and arrive in Mozambique a month later. We will take in the mighty Zambezi River and Victoria Falls before entering Botswana, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. South African highlights include the world famous Kruger National Park and Blyde River Canyon. The Kingdom of Swaziland will be the location for a community project and some exciting trekking, before arriving on the beaches of Mozambique to complete our journey.

We will aim to provide an outline as the trip progresses in the form of an on-line diary. This will be updated as and when the group has internet access, so there may be a number of days between updates. Please click here to read the online diary

Below is an introduction to the 2104 trip from Andy Lowe, the Senior Leader:

Dear friends,

I am delighted to introduce you to the 2014 Journey of a Lifetime.

This year we are travelling from the heart of Africa to the Indian Ocean, with 24 youngsters and 8 leaders. Our month long trip will take us from Zambia along the Zambezi, through the parks, plains and deltas of Botswana, cutting across South Africa en route to the uplands of Swaziland, and then out onto the Indian Ocean coast of Mozambique.  We will journey by road, foot, kayak, raft, dug out canoe, dhow sailing boat, and zip line to explore the majestic environment and culture of the African nations.

As well as telling you more about the trip, I am proud to introduce you to the amazing team of youngsters and leaders that will take part in the journey. Each of them has their own, very special story to tell and their reason for being on the trip. They are an inspirational group and I am very proud to be a part of it.

This is my second expedition as Senior Leader, taking over from Dorothy Dalton, the founder and driving force behind JoLt for almost 30 years. She has stepped back a little but remains a source of tremendous inspiration and advice for all of us still involved in the running of these extraordinary trips.  And our ethos remains the same as when Dorothy began the first journey in 1984 – to make a positive lasting difference to the lives of disabled, ill, neglected and abused young people.

In addition to all those involved in leading and organising the trip, JoLt could not continue without the amazing support of all our donors, trustees and volunteers and I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of those that have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make our journey possible.

Thank you for all your support in making the 2014 Journey of a Lifetime possible.

Kind regards

Andy Lowe

Senior Leader
